Gamleby - The Old Town
A walk in the older part of Laholm, Gamleby almost makes you fly back in time. When walking in these parts, one can almost hear the sound of horse hooves against the cobbled street. This old part is delightful to see with its low houses and winding alleys. Gamleby, in its planning, is a reminiscence of Danish medieval times, yet also it reflects the small towns in northern Germany during the same era.
During your walk through Gamleby, you will pass the old pottery and its gallery where, in the summertime, you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee in the lush garden. The church stable and Saint Clemens’ Church are other interesting buildings.
Golf
Around Laholm several exciting opportunities to play golf awaits for you, regardless you are a beginner or experienced. We are sure that you will find a course that suits your taste.
Laholms GK and Skogaby GK are both parkland courses in slightly hilled and beautiful environment. To play golf here the official green card is needed.
Mellby golf is a pleasant short distance “pay and play” course in forest environment. The nine holes are 95–185 m long and the greens are of very high quality. Skummeslöv golf course, with twelve holes, is another short distance “pay and play” alternative in very beautiful surroundings.
Museum of Drawings
In the old, newly renovated fire station, with a beautiful view over Lagan, there is now a Museum of Drawings, the only of its kind in Scandinavia. In the museum’s spacious halls, you can gaze at the many different drawings and enjoy the exhibitions. Once done looking, relax and have a coffee in the cosy café!
The Castle in Skottorp
This castle is one of the buildings most worth seeing in the region. It was built in approximately 1670. The wedding between Swedish King Karl XI and Danish Ulrika Eleonora in 1680 was held here. The castle is built in Empire Style and it is considered to be representative of this style. Being one of the best kept castles of its kind in Sweden, the castle itself and its park is well worth a visit. There are guided tours several times a week in the summer time. In the building next to the castle, you can have a nice cup of coffee in the charming café overlooking the garden.
Just like many other old castles, this castle is believed to be haunted. In this particular one an old owner is believed to still be helping out. The current owners have also a feeling of being watched from time to time.
Skottorp’s Stengods – Skottorp’s Stoneware
In the pottery you can buy handmade very beautiful and unique stoneware as well as look at the workshop. It is even possible to try the art of turning in the little potter house. This is a fun and different experience. For a small sum you can get your piece frosted and burned and take it home.
Summer luge in Kungsbygget
The summer luge is an amazing activity for both young and old. In Kungsbygget you have the opportunity to experience the thrill of speed. The luge course at Kungsbygget is 934 metres (3 064,30 feet) long and runs through woods and meadows. You decide the speed – with the
speed lever you can decelerate or accelerate.
The Beach
Imagine standing right by the waterside, feeling the soft warm sand between your toes, the fresh air and the sunshine warming your face while overlooking the view. Welcome to Mellbystrand and Skummeslöv! Here you can lay in the sun, take a swim and have a nice time. Find your own spot in one of the sand dunes or place
your sun chair wherever you like on the long beach and just relax. Does it not sound tempting?
What would a vacation be without a few lazy days? If you however get tired of spending time on the beach, there are plenty of activities.
If you want to go shopping, plan a visit to the small shops in Mellbystrand. Here as well as in Skummeslöv there are plenty of other activities, such as the popular miniature golf.
The coast line of Laholm is a summer
paradise with everything most of us need while on vacation to relax and feel good. There are much more to be told about this area and much to explore. This will however be left untold, giving you the opportunity to find your own little secret favourite spot.
Strandhotellet - The Beach Hotel
We remain close to the coast a while and there we find Strandhotellet. In 2001, this grand venue was voted as the most beautiful building in Halland. It is newly renovated and has now regained its old style from 1927, however without hotel rooms. Instead, there are architect-designed holiday houses on the property. In the main building there is a bar and a café. Do not miss this sight during your visit!
The Artgallery in Hishult - Konsthallen
The gallery offers much to see. It is a unique art gallery in terms of both content and architecture. Every year there is six different exhibitions, besides this there are the Zen Buddhist Garden and an ever changing sculpture park worth to discover. Enjoy a stop in the inn or the café and get some new energy!
The Mill in Kornhult - Kvarnen
Do not miss to visit the well-kept mill from 1945. The unique environment, the art gallery, the café and the restaurant are popular and well-visited. During the summer the gallery is open every day and a large variation of activities and event is offered. During the winter time there are courses and workshops and in December the traditional Christmas market is a happening. For them who wish to stay over the night, the wish can be fulfilled.
The old country store in Ysby – Ysby gamla Lanthandel
Take the opportunity to visit the old country store from the 1890´s in the middle of Ysby´s society in genuine surroundings. Here you can find goodies from their own bakery as well as gallery, toy museum and a shop with old articles. In the child café the famous Swedish fairy-tale “Findus and Pettson” will wait for you
The Steamboat - Ångbåten
During the summer months the Steamboat s/s Lagaholm is a well-known sight in Laholm. If you listen carefully you might hear the vessel. To sail on the Lagan is a very enjoyable way to discover the environment and the countryside. In the summer it departures from the small marina in Laholm.
