Copenhagen - Bars & Nightlife

Partner logo

The Copenhageners know how to party, and every weekend the city’s bars and clubs are packed. Nightlife starts relatively late, and goes on well into the next morning. Many places stay open until 05:00 in the morning. If you are going dancing you should pick one of the many clubs in the city centre, or go to the hip Meatpacking district where bars, clubs and restaurants are lined up next to each other. Nørrebro and Vesterbro both have a wide selection of bars as well as the cheap – but dodgy – bodegas. Young people should be aware, that you have to be 18 years old to buy alcohol in bars, and some clubs have an age limit.

Beer

Need to quench your thirst the Danish way? Then find your way into one of the city’s many bars, breweries or restaurants where you will find great Danish beer. Denmark is famous worldwide for Tuborg and Carlsberg, but the two pilsners are far from the only possibility. Micro breweries have become widely popular throughout the country, and this has made quite an impact on the selection.

Cocktail bars

The Danes might be famous for their beer, but the Copenhageners enjoy cocktails and long drinks just the same. Most places have professional bartenders who know exactly how to shake, mix and stir that perfect drink. So why not join in for a classic mojito, a refreshing daiquiri or the city’s own signature drink: The Copenhagen, made with Bols Genever, Cherry Heering, lime, sugar syrup and Angostura Bitters.

Bars

The bar scene in Copenhagen is quite big and varied. The Copenhageners love to go out – especially on the weekends. Cocktails are very popular and you will find several bars all over Copenhagen, where professional bartenders are ready to serve cold and creative cocktails. Copenhagen even has its own signature drink - A Copenhagen. Wine bars are also starting to open up all over the city offering quality wine in cosy settings.

Gay Copenhagen

Copenhagen has a sprawling nightlife and the gay scene is no exception. Centralhjørnet is the oldest gay bar in Denmark and here you can quite often enjoy live music or a show. Oscar Bar & Café by City Hall is a trendy gay bar and Friday evenings you get DJs and the town’s best atmosphere. Both places welcome all.

Wine bars

The concept of wine bars is a hit in Copenhagen. You can taste wines from all over the world in a broad selection of fine whites, reds and bobbles. Falernum is a trendy bohem’ish wine bar on the small, busy Værnedamsvej road. The atmosphere is cool and local. Malbeck Wine Bar in Vesterbro and Nørrebro are another trendy hang out. The owners used to live in Argentina and are so taken by the country that they only serve Argentinean wines.

Music Venues

If you are into live music and in the mood for a concert there are several places to check out around Copenhagen. Go for instance to Vega in Vesterbro, which is one of the finest music venues in Denmark. There is room enough to host some of the biggest name on the Scandinavian music scene, and at the same time keep an intimacy.

Happy Hour

Going out for drinks doesn’t have to ruin the budget. You just have to know where to go when. Several bars around the city offer happy hour(s) where you get two-for-one cocktails. Try Kassen in Nørrebro, where you get two delicious cocktails for around 70 DKK every Friday afternoon. Or if you are in the mood for beer go to Heidi’s Bier bar and get a 50% discount at the bar every Friday from 14-20.

Pumpehuset

Classic rock venue where the best Nordic rock artists play. International rock musicians such as Björk, Robbie Williams and Cowboy Junkies were here before their popularity made Pumpehuset, with a capacity of 600, too small.

Rust

Lots of live music, Thursday to Saturdays and often other evenings as well. Indierock, hiphop and up-and-coming Danish bands. Young audience who like to dance and party.
